As India won the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa at the Kensington Oval, former fast bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, a member of the winning team of the first edition of 2007, lauded it and praised the Rohit Sharma-led side. Described the journey in the competition as amazing. India entered Saturday’s title match as one of the two unbeaten teams along with South Africa. Player of the Match Virat Kohli stepped up when it mattered most, scoring 76 off 59 balls to help India post a competitive score of 176/7, the highest total in a Men’s T20 World Cup final .
In reply, South Africa was trying its best to chase the target. But Hardik inspired India to come back into the match by dismissing Heinrich Klaasen and restricted South Africa to 169/8 to end their 11-year-long global trophy drought. While Pandya took 3-20, Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah registered figures of 2-18.
After India’s victory, Sreesanth said in Disney + Hotstar’s ‘Caught and Bold’ show, “As we have won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, I am overwhelmed with pride for Team India. India now join West Indies and England as two-time winners of the Men’s T20 World Cup and also bid a triumphant farewell to head coach Rahul Dravid. This also meant that Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma retired from playing T20 for India on a great high. Sreesanth said, “This victory is not just for us but for every Indian cricket lover who shares our passion and belief. Let’s celebrate this victory and hope for more successes in the future.”
