A summit is to be held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Russia after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Sources say that in the meeting with Putin, PM Modi will appeal to Russia to follow the UN Charter. Will also say that no solution can be found through war. Any solution can be found only through dialogue and diplomacy.
America appealed to India
US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that ‘Prime Minister Modi, like Prime Minister Orban, had recently met President Zelensky. We consider this an important step, which will motivate India to talk to other countries including Russia and ensure that any solution to the Ukraine conflict is found through the UN Charter. At the same time, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine should also be kept in mind. India is our strategic partner with whom we can talk openly and honestly, and we can also express our concerns about India’s relations with Russia.
It is necessary to follow sovereignty under the United Nations Charter
The United Nations Charter is the founding document of the United Nations. It was signed at the conclusion of the United Nations Conference in San Francisco on 26 June 1945 and came into force on 24 October 1945. Through this charter, the United Nations can take action on international issues under the powers contained in its charter. The UN Charter is considered an international treaty. Thus, the UN Charter is an instrument of international law, and UN member states are bound by it. Under an article of the United Nations Charter, every country will respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of another country.
