Hardik Pandya T20 Captain vs Sri Lanka: Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will captain India in the three-match T20 cricket series against Sri Lanka starting on July 27. Pandya will not play the three-match ODI series to be held in August due to personal reasons. A senior BCCI source told PTI, “Hardik Pandya was the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team. He is completely fit and also available for the three-match T20 series, hence he will be the captain.” Rohit Sharma said goodbye to T20 cricket after winning the World Cup. The T20 series will be played in Pallekele from July 27 to 30 while the ODIs will be played in Colombo from August 2 to 7. The team will be announced in the next few days.
It is not yet decided whether the vice-captain will be Shubhman Gill or Suryakumar Yadav. Regarding the ODI series, the official said that Pandya has asked for a break due to personal reasons and has informed the regular captain Rohit Sharma about it. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has clearly said that if not playing international cricket, all the star cricketers will also have to play domestic cricket. Rohit, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been exempted.
BCCI wants all the other Test specialists to play at least one match of Duleep Trophy in August. After this the team has to play Test series with Bangladesh and New Zealand.
