Prague: Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to stop the supply of diesel to Ukraine. PM Fico says the country’s Slovenft refinery will stop supplying diesel to Ukraine if the transport of Russian oil to Slovakia via Ukraine is not resumed soon. Ukraine recently halted the transportation of oil from Russian company Lukoil to Slovakia and Hungary through the Druzhba pipeline. He had put the company on his sanctions list in June. Slovakia’s Finance Ministry said earlier this month that oil deliveries from Lukoil to Slovakia via Ukraine had already stopped.
What did PM Fico say?
According to the report of news agency Xinhua, Prime Minister Fico has said in a video message that further implementation of the sanctions imposed by Ukraine on Lukoil will only harm Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary. “If the supply of Russian oil through Ukraine is not resumed soon, the Slovakian company Slovenft (which covers one-tenth of Ukrainian consumption) will stop supplying diesel to Ukraine,” he said.
FICO spoke to the PM of Ukraine
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Fico also spoke on phone with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denis Shmihal on Friday and suggested technical solutions to restart oil supplies. “On behalf of Slovakia I reiterate that we are ready. I welcome reports that confirm that relevant commercial companies are already ready to deploy this technical solution in the shortest possible time,” Fico said in a video message on Monday. Are considering implementing.”
