Talking about the first match of the series, the Rawalpindi Test had a delayed start due to a wet outfield, but by the fifth day it had turned into an action-packed thriller. Even though only 41 overs were played on the first day, the visiting team made a strong start by taking four important wickets. Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel stepped up for Pakistan on the second day and scored centuries to save the host team. Rizwan scored 171 not out in a marathon innings, due to which he started having cramps by the end of the day.
Pakistan declared their innings at 448/6. For Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim (191) and Shadnam Islam (93) performed brilliantly as Pakistan struggled in the field for most of the fourth day. Both came very close to important milestones, but they missed. At 23/1 at the start of the fifth day, Pakistan were all out for just 146 runs, with only Rizwan managing a struggling half-century. Bangladesh’s spinners stole the show, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz taking four wickets and Shakib Al Hasan taking three more. The visiting team needed only 30 runs for a historic victory, which they achieved in less than seven overs without losing any wicket. After the historic win in the first Test, Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
