New York BAPS Temple: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi Ahead of the US tour, the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in New York has been vandalized and anti-India slogans have been written. This incident happened in Melville, New York City. The Indian Consulate has expressed strong objection to this incident. India has raised the issue with US law enforcement officials regarding prompt action against the accused in the heinous incident.
“The incident of tampering with the signage near the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Melville, New York is unacceptable,” the Indian Consulate in New York said in a post on X on Monday. The post said the Consulate ‘is in touch with the community and has taken up the matter with officials of law enforcement agencies for immediate action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.’
PM Modi will visit America on September 21
Melville is located in Suffolk County, Long Island and is about 28 kilometers from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a community event on September 22. According to the footage surfaced on social media, objectionable words have been written with spray paint on the road and symbols outside the temple. PM Modi is going to America on a three-day tour in the month of September. PM Modi’s US visit is to be held on 21, 22 and 23 September.
Hindu organizations demanded strict action
After this anti-India incident, BAPS said, we are sad that once again we have to appeal for peace amidst hatred and intolerance. Last night the Swaminarayan Temple in New York was vandalized with hate messages. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident in North America. Such unholy incidents have also happened in Hindu temples. Swaminarayan Temple strongly condemns this incident. After this incident, Hindu American Foundation said in a post on ‘X’ that the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security should investigate this incident.
