Man Quits Job On First Day Due To Long Distance In Delhi Sparks Debate

Recently, an employee based in New Delhi shared that he quit his job on the very first day itself due to the long commute to reach office everyday, sparking a discussion on Reddit. He argued that he quit his job because he felt that the time he had to travel between his office and home was too much. He further told that changing house was not an option for him, and he got only 3 hours of free time at his house apart from the time of sleeping.

Notably, he lives in the North-Western part of Delhi, while his job is in Gurugram.

He wrote, “Got a job in a good company with a good salary. They needed people and immediately hired me after a few rounds of interviews. I got excited as it was my first job but I realized that the time taken to reach office everyday is too much. I live in the North-Western part of Delhi (Pink Line) and the office was on “Maulsari Avenue”. I wanted on-site exposure as I am very introverted. After some calculations, I realized that I would be at home only for 3 hours, as the rest of the time would be spent in office work and commuting. Also, commuting will cost about 5 thousand in a month. I can’t even change my house.

Her post garnered a ton of comments, many of whom spoke about their own commuting struggles and described her experience as quite “normal” and her decision “stupid.” Some asked them to pick up houses near their offices, while others advised them to adapt and use their travel time efficiently. Others reminded him that at the beginning of his career some challenges have to be accepted.

Sharing his experience, a user wrote, “I go to Gurgaon from Ghaziabad. 120-130 minutes from both sides. There are some colleagues who keep coming from around your area. The best advice I got from a senior was to carry my books when I travel in metro. Been doing this for almost 6 years. ”Best use of time.”

Another wrote, “You have to work hard in the initial years, make some sacrifices. Once you gain expertise in the field, later you will feel quite comfortable.” The third said, “Brother, half of Delhi goes to Gurugram daily! You have to try for big income.

The user later edited the post and said that based on the responses he received, he believed the decision was taken in haste. ”I was wrong. I did not know that every other person also travels so much. He wrote, I had no one to talk to so I took the decision in haste. I will give better performance and take advantage of whatever opportunity I get next time. Thanks guys.
