Pyongyang. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Pyongyang on Thursday. Sergei Lavrov has come to North Korea on his official visit. During this time he will meet top leaders and ministers of North Korea. Kim Jong himself personally received Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his counterpart in North Korea and the talks are believed to be focused on boosting their military ties by the two countries. A few days before this meeting, America had alleged that North Korea had sent a new consignment of war material to Russia for the ongoing war in Ukraine. Sergei Lavrov arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday for a two-day visit. Here Sergei said during the welcome speech that he thanks North Korea for its strong support in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
There is also speculation about Putin’s visit to Pyongyang.
There is speculation regarding Lavrov’s visit whether the two countries will give any indication on how they will strengthen their security cooperation. At the same time, during this visit, there is also speculation that Russia will announce the schedule of President Vladimir Putin’s proposed visit to Pyongyang. Putin had promised North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who came to Russia last month, to visit his country.
Kim Jong went to Russia and met Putin
During his visit to Russia, Kim met Putin at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, Russia’s most important domestic space launch center, as well as inspected other major Russian weapons manufacturing sites. After this, discussions intensified that Kim was looking for sophisticated Russian technologies to modernize his nuclear arsenal in exchange for the supply of conventional weapons to replenish Russia’s war-expired weapons stock.
Relations at a qualitatively new strategic level
“The historic summit between President Putin and Chairman Kim Jong Un, held on September 13 at the Vostochny Cosmodrome,” Lavrov said at the start of a meeting with Korean Foreign Minister Choe Sun Hui on Thursday, according to Russia’s state-run Interfax news agency. “After this, we can say with confidence that relations have reached a qualitatively new strategic level.”
Neither of the two countries has yet given any information regarding the meeting. Lavrov said on Wednesday that the purpose of his visit was to discuss implementing unspecified agreements reached during the September summit between Putin and Kim. The White House said last Friday that North Korea had delivered more than 1,000 containers of military equipment and munitions to Russia.
