Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday acquitted former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in two corruption cases. He was convicted in these cases in 2018.
Sharif (73) had challenged his conviction in the Avenfield property and Al-Azizia cases in the Islamabad High Court. A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb pronounced the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides.

Former Prime Minister Sharif was convicted in July, 2018 and sentenced to 10 years in jail in the Avenfield assets corruption case related to disproportionate assets in London. He was sentenced to seven years in prison in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case in December 2018.
The cases were filed by the national anti-corruption watchdog, National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He had filed appeals against his conviction in both cases. Sharif had gone to London in 2019 and did not return and the Islamabad High Court had declared him a fugitive in both cases in December 2020. He returned home last month after nearly four years in self-imposed exile.
