Aakash Chopra On KL Rahul Absence In Team India T20 Squad For Afghanistan Series Ahead Of T20I World Cup 2024

Team India T20 Squad: The three-match T20 series against Afghanistan starting from January 11 is very important for Team India in terms of the T20 World Cup. Through this series, potential players have to be marked to some extent and team combinations also have to be discovered. This is the reason why Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in the T20 squad after a break of more than a year. Although KL Rahul’s name is not here. A lot of discussions are taking place regarding this. Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has also commented on this matter.

Aakash Chopra has said on his YouTube channel, ‘Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were India’s top-3 in the World Cup 2022. Of these, this time there is no clarity whether KL Rahul has been dropped or not. At present he is not there. Discussions will continue on this matter.

Akash says, ‘KL Rahul’s strike rate in T20 International is more than 135, which means it is not bad at all. There is no room for opening in Team India now. You can play him in the middle order like in ODI. You are letting him down even in Test cricket.

Difficult path for KL Rahul
After the T20 comeback of Rohit and Virat, it is looking a bit difficult for KL Rahul to make a place in the T20 squad. This is because Team India currently has a lot of talent for T20 cricket. Young players like Rituraj, Yashasvi, Rinku and Tilak are performing brilliantly. Then there are also players like Shubhman, Surya and Hardik. In such a situation, now it seems a bit difficult for KL Rahul to return to the T20 squad.

However, doors are still open for him for the T20 World Cup. If the young players are not able to perform well in the Afghanistan series and IPL and KL Rahul scores a lot of runs in the IPL, then the selectors can look towards him. Anyway, a big reason for KL’s absence in the Afghanistan series is that he was a part of the ODI and Test team in South Africa. In such a situation, he needed to be given rest before the England Test series.
