New Delhi: Actress Shabana Azmi recently talked about husband Javed Akhtar’s first wife Honey Irani’s reaction to his affair in the chat show The Invincible Series Season 2 with Arbaaz Khan. He credited Honey Irani for handling the circumstances at that time gracefully. However, the actress revealed that when the affair started, Honey Irani’s behavior was “bitter” and did not force her into a relationship initially while maintaining a safe distance. Speaking to Arbaaz Khan, Shabana Azmi said, “I really appreciate Honey, because that generosity was her gift. And today, with Honey too, we have a really great relationship. I know that Honey is confident that even if she calls Javed at midnight and needs something, he will come.”

The actress told how Javed Akhtar worked hard to build this relationship with Honey Irani. He said, we decided that there should be no bitterness in this. Although there was bitterness in the beginning. He felt rejected. But he persevered and what he has today is something I’m really proud of.”

Giving credit to Farhan, Zoya and Honey Irani for maintaining a healthy inter-personal relationship, Shabana Azmi said, I feel very happy because I have a very beautiful relationship with Zoya and Farhan and I definitely want to give credit for it to Honey. He was very young at that time and it would have been the easiest thing to get Honey on his side. But he never did this. He encouraged them to stay with us.

It is noteworthy that Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani got married in 1972, after which both of them got divorced in 1985. Whereas Shabana Azmi married Javed Akhtar in 1984. Javed Akhtar has two children, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar.
