Famous Gurudwara in Delhi NCR: Baisakhi is a major festival of Sikh religion. It is celebrated as the New Year of Sikhism. Rabi crops are harvested in the month of Vaishakh. Farmers thank God for a good harvest and celebrate Baisakhi. The enthusiasm for this festival is seen most in Haryana, Punjab and surrounding states and cities.
This time Baisakhi is being celebrated on 13 April 2024. On the occasion of Baisakhi, people go to Gurudwara and prayers and services are performed. Kirtan and langar are organized. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib
Bangla Sahib tops the list of the most famous Gurudwaras of Delhi. It is believed that Bangla Sahib Gurudwara used to be the bungalow of Maharaj Jai Singh of Jaipur. The eighth Guru Har Kishan Singh lived in this bungalow. Later it was converted into a Gurudwara. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib operates 24 hours a day and langar is served here throughout the year.
Gurdwara Shishganj Sahib
Shishganj Sahib Gurdwara is located in Old Delhi. This Gurudwara was built in 1783 by Baghel Singh, the military general of Punjab Cantonment. When Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth Guru of the Sikhs, refused to accept Islam, he was murdered on the orders of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This Gurudwara was built in memory of the martyrdom of Guru Tej Bahadur.
Gurudwara Baba Banda Singh Bahadur
Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Gurudwara is located in Mehrauli near Qutub Minar, Delhi. In 1719, the Mughals brutally killed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and his sons along with 40 other Sikhs. This Gurudwara was built in memory of his bravery and martyrdom. A fair is held here every year during Baisakhi.
