What is special about Lakshadweep?
Amidst the ongoing strained relations with Maldives, the government has decided to give a big gift to Lakshadweep in the budget. The Finance Minister has informed that new projects for tourism will be announced on many islands including Lakshadweep. The special thing is that after the objectionable comments made by Maldives government ministers on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there was a boycott of Maldives tourism on social media. After this, Indian citizens have started reaching Lakshadweep in large numbers. Nirmala Sitharaman said that projects will be started for amenities for Lakshadweep. Due to which employment will also increase.
Vande Bharat
Nirmala Sitharaman said that about 40 thousand railway bogies will be converted into Vande Bharat bogies. Along with this, the government has also announced 3 new rail corridors and work on the freight corridor is also going on.
What is the focus at airports?
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the aviation sector has been transformed in the last ten years. The number of airports has doubled to 149. Under the UDAN scheme, tier-two and tier-three cities have been connected by air routes on a large scale. Five hundred and seventeen new air routes are taking 1.3 crore passengers to their destinations. The country’s aviation companies are moving ahead strongly by placing orders for more than 1000 new aircraft. The work of expansion of existing airports and expansion of new airports will continue at a rapid pace.
