Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana is a special scheme announced by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 1 July 2015. In this scheme, high quality generic medicines are made available by the government at prices lower than the market price. For this, ‘Jan Aushadhi Stores’ have been created by the government, where generic medicines are made available.
Branded medicines are expensive
According to the information received, branded medicines of renowned companies available in the market are usually quite expensive. Since they are more popular and easily available at all medical stores. In such a situation, the doctor also writes the same medicines in prescription. Whereas, generic medicines are available at Jan Aushadhi centres. Due to their low price and some other reasons, people usually have questions in their mind whether these medicines are good and whether they are as effective as the expensive medicines.
What is the purpose of the event?
The main objective of organizing Jan Aushadhi Day and Week is to create awareness among the common citizens regarding all these issues and to create confidence among the people towards generic medicines. This event is also a day to celebrate the efforts of the Government of India to make medicines available to every person and their achievements in this direction.
Organization of awareness programs
Before ‘Jan Aushadhi Diwas’, many types of awareness programs are organized by government and non-government organizations from the beginning of March. These include doctors, health experts, people who use generic medicines, people associated with Jan Aushadhi Kendras, children and common people.
On this occasion, seminars, events, heritage walks, health camps and many other activities are also organized by PMBJK and Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) in educational institutions and NGOs.
