In chikungunya, the patient has problems like headache, muscle pain, fatigue and rashes along with fever. Chikungunya fever lasts for 3 to 7 days, in some people it lasts for 12 days. Some patients of chikungunya are prone to arthritis due to prolonged joint pain.

Most doctors first test for dengue and malaria to detect this disease. Then, a test for chikungunya is done. A simple blood test (CHIKV) is done to detect this mosquito-borne disease.
