This disease has not been completely eradicated even after its treatment became possible. To show awareness about it, World Tuberculosis Day 2024 is celebrated on 24 March. Every year lakhs of people die due to this disease. The reason for this is lack of awareness about the disease.

When did the celebration of the day start?

Let us tell you that on March 24, 1882, Dr. Robert Koch discovered a bacteria named Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (World Tuberculosis Day). From this day onwards, World TB Day started being celebrated every year on 24th March, which continues till now.

WHO included it among the most dangerous diseases

Let us tell you, the World Health Organization (WHO) has placed tuberculosis (TB) among the world’s deadliest infectious diseases. The total number of TB cases reported in India in the year 2022 was 21.42 lakh, of which Telangana alone recorded 72,878 cases. Apart from this, there has been a continuous increase in the cases of this disease.

Know what is the disease and symptoms of TB

Talking about this disease Tuberculosis i.e. TB, it is considered a serious respiratory disease, it is a problem caused by bacterial infection, in which your lungs get infected. Other people may also be at risk of getting infected due to coming in contact with the droplets released by the cough and sneeze of a person suffering from the disease. Not only this, the risk of spreading TB infection is seen to be higher in crowded places. There are many types of symptoms of this TB disease, it has flu like symptoms. In this the patient has mild fever, fatigue and cough. In case of increased infection, there are symptoms like mucus coming with cough, pain with breathing or coughing, fever-chills, sweating at night.

TB can occur in any organ

Other people can be affected through small droplets released from coughs and sneezes of people suffering from this TB disease. In this disease, apart from the lungs, TB disease can also occur in the brain, uterus, mouth, liver, kidney or throat. But due to TB occurring in the lungs, the disease spreads through coughing or sneezing.

Treatment of this disease has become possible at present. According to doctors, people who have been tested for TB can get benefit from medicines. To prevent the spread of TB disease, you should maintain distance from other people. It is possible to keep people suffering from this disease from their family members by maintaining proper distance. TB germs spread more easily in closed spaces. Therefore, it is important that you maintain good ventilation in the room where you live. Wear a mask when you have to be around other people.
