2 Zimbabwe cricket players accused of using banned drugs, banned for so many months

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on January 25 banned two of its players, Wesley Madhewere and Brandon Mavuta, from taking part in any cricket activity for four months for using banned drugs. Last month, when both of them were accused of taking these drugs, their dope test was done, after which with the test report coming out, both the players have accepted their mistake.

Both players were fined along with the ban

Along with Wesley Madhewere and Brandon Mavuta being banned for four months, the statement issued by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board in this matter also said that they have also been fined 50 percent. Both the cricketers will have to pay 50 percent of their salary as fine. Zimbabwe Cricket operates on a zero tolerance policy on drugs and prohibited drugs. Our committee found that the drugs used by Wesley Madhewere and Brandon Mavuta are prohibited. Therefore, this is a serious crime and both the cricketers broke the rules. We have been embarrassed because of Wesley Madhewere and Brandon Mavuta.

Both players will undergo rehabilitation process

After the use of banned drugs, both the players will now have to go through a rehabilitation process which will be monitored by the medical team of Zimbabwe Cricket and both the players will have to train in high performance. Along with giving up this habit, both the players also expressed regret over the mistake. At the same time, the committee also considered some factors to prevent such players from using drugs. Let us tell you that the last 1 year has not been special for Zimbabwe cricket in international cricket in which the team missed playing in the ODI World Cup and also did not succeed in qualifying for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
