Chennai Chess Grandmasters 2024: Arvind Chidambaram won the title of Masters category in the final match at Anna Centenary Library, Chennai. There was a triangular contest for the top spot. In which Arvind had earlier defeated the top-ranked Grandmaster Arjun Erigesy on Sunday. After that, he defeated Grandmaster Levon Aronian in the first blitz playoff and then played the second match with black pieces and played a draw. Arvind won his first match against Oronian and won the Chennai Grandmasters title after playing a draw in the second. Arvind topped the competition by scoring 4.5 points and won in a tough competition.

Arvind was on top in the tiebreak on the basis of better score while Aronian and Arjun played a two-game blitz playoff and both emerged victorious, taking the match to sudden death. Aronian held Arjun to a draw and made it to the finals against Arvind.
Earlier, Arvind had won the next match against Parham M of Iran, while on Sunday night, top-ranked Grandmaster Arjun Erigesi and Levon Aronian played a draw. Aronian played out a draw with Grandmaster Amin Tabatabai while Arjun agreed to a draw with Grandmaster Maxi Vachier Lagrave.
Pranav won the challenger category
In the Challenger category, Pranab Venkatesh needed only a draw against Grandmaster Luke Mendonca. He won the Challenger title with a draw.
