England’s legendary batsman passes away, wave of mourning in the cricket world

Graham Thorpe passed away : The England Wales Cricket Board has announced that former England and Surrey batsman Graham Thorpe has died at the age of 55. Thorpe played 100 Test and 82 ODI matches for England between 1993 and 2005. The stylish left-handed batsman also scored 6,744 Test runs for England at an average of 44.66, including 16 centuries. “Words cannot express our deep shock at Graham’s death,” the ECB said in a statement. Apart from being one of the finest batsmen England has ever produced, he was a beloved member of the cricket family and respected by fans around the world. There was no question about his skill and his ability and achievements over a 13-year international career brought great joy to his teammates and England and Surrey CCC supporters.” Ben Stokes has also reacted to the death of Graham Thorpe.

 

 

Graham Thorpe started his career in great style by making his Ashes debut at Trent Bridge in 1993. He scored 16 centuries and scored 6,744 runs in Test matches, while he scored 2,380 runs in ODIs. Thorpe, who also performed brilliantly at the county level, scored 21,937 runs in first class cricket for Surrey, which included 49 centuries in his name. Let us tell you that Thorpe was admitted to the hospital in the year 2022 due to being seriously ill.

In the ICC batting rankings, Thorpe had reached number 3 in the Test before England’s West Indies tour in 1998. His top ranking in ODI rankings was 10. After retiring from cricket in 2005, Thorpe worked as a coach for New South Wales, Surrey and England. Recently he was the assistant coach of England until the 2021/22 Ashes tour of Australia. After this, Thorpe was appointed the head coach of Afghanistan in March 2022, but due to his illness he could not hold this post.
