South Africa-born Neil Wagner may have played 64 test matches for New Zealand, but he never got a place in the ODI and T20 teams. One reason for this was that he was considered a specialist bowler of the red ball format. Neil Wagner has made it clear that he will continue to play first class cricket in future also.
Neil Wagner played his last Test match against South Africa between 12 and 16 February. He took two wickets in this match. After this test match, Neil talked to New Zealand coach Gary Stead. The coach said that he is no longer counted in New Zealand’s best playing eleven.
Neil Wagner said on Tuesday, ‘It is not easy to distance yourself from the thing for which you give the most important time of your life. This week has been emotional for me. I played Test matches for New Zealand and we achieved a lot as a team, of which I am proud. Now it is time to pass the baton. Hopefully our team will continue to perform well in future also.
