Pakistan News: According to Pakistan media reports, PTI founders Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the cipher case. Judge Abdul Hasnat Zulkarnain of the special court hearing this case has given this decision on Tuesday. Imran Khan is currently lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and the verdict in this case was pronounced there. This decision is being considered a big blow for Imran Khan who is already in jail. General elections are to be held in Pakistan on February 8, before which this punishment is no less than a deep blow to the election preparations of Imran’s party. Because with this 10-year sentence, the path of contesting elections has been closed for Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was the Foreign Minister in his government.
Special court gave decision on punishment, big blow for Imran
This decision of the special court is being considered a big blow for Imran Khan and his party. Imran was dreaming of contesting elections from jail itself. But this dream has been broken by the announcement of 10 year sentence.
Although Imran Khan can still challenge this sentence in higher courts, but due to the ongoing tension with the army, he has little hope of getting relief.
Know what the judge said?
During the hearing, the judge said that Imran Khan’s lawyers were not appearing in the court. He has been given a government lawyer. When former Foreign Minister Qureshi said that when his lawyer is not present, how will he be able to record his statement. This hearing was held inside the jail itself. Just before the elections, the election symbol ‘Balla’ was also taken away from Imran Khan’s party.
More than 10 thousand workers of Imran’s party are in jail
On the other hand, PTI has said that more than 10,000 party workers are still in jail for their alleged involvement in the attack on military installations in May last year. Most of these are in Punjab and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Since the Supreme Court has deprived PTI of its iconic symbol cricket ‘bat’. Therefore all its candidates are now contesting the elections independently.
Bilawal Bhutto had given a statement that brought relief to Imran
Amidst the election campaign, Bilawal Bhutto, who was the Foreign Minister in the Shehbaz Sharif government of Pakistan, had given a statement recently. In which he had said that if the workers of Imran Khan’s party support him in the elections to be held on February 8 and he comes to power, then in return he will end the politics of vengeance and release all the workers in jail. “Sharif’s PML-N is taking revenge from PTI,” Bilawal promised. Bilawal had said that I ask PTI workers to support me. If I come to power, I will release all political workers including PTI.
