China and Pakistan on Saturday opposed any unilateral action to resolve all pending issues in South Asia, especially Kashmir. The Chinese side reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved in a just and peaceful manner in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements. CPEC corridor was also discussed
Two days ago, the Prime Minister’s Office of Pakistan issued a statement. The statement said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chinese Premier Li-Kiang. They discussed the importance of Gwadar as an important pillar of CPEC. They agreed to expedite the timely completion of all related infrastructure projects to transform Gwadar, Balochistan into a regional economic hub. The statement further said that both the leaders agreed to protect CPEC from its adversaries also. They expressed a strong commitment to each other. Furthermore, Prime Minister Qiang congratulated Prime Minister Sharif on Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
India opposes CPEC corridor
CPEC connects Gwadar port in Pakistan’s Balochistan with China’s Xinjiang province. India is opposing it as it is being built through Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Regarding CPEC, Jaishankar had once said that I think it was made very clear not once but twice in the SCO meeting on the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that connectivity is good for progress, but connectivity is not good for any country. Cannot violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.
Pakistani PM is on China tour
Sharif has gone to China on his four-day visit. Sharif concluded his four-day visit by stressing on increasing Chinese investment and cooperation. Pakistan is currently facing a serious economic crisis. In such a situation, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif informed the Chinese leadership about the situation in Kashmir. During this, he held extensive discussions to further strengthen the mutual relations between the two armies.
A joint statement concluding the visit said both sides understood the importance of maintaining peace and stability in South Asia. Therefore, in view of the need for resolution of all pending disputes, especially Kashmir, any unilateral action should be avoided. During this, the Pakistani side informed the Chinese side about the latest developments in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
