EID 2024 PM Modi extends Eid greetings to Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu

Mohamed Muizzu PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Wednesday, he extended warm wishes to Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. In his message to President Muizzu, the ruling government of the island nation and the people of Maldives, PM Modi highlighted the cultural and civilizational ties shared by India and Maldives.

Giving details of PM Modi’s Eid wishes, the Indian High Commission in Male said, “The Prime Minister pointed out that as we celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with traditional enthusiasm, people around the world are inspired by the values โ€‹โ€‹of compassion, brotherhood and solidarity. These are essential to building the peaceful and inclusive world we all desire.”

Despite recent sourness between the two neighbors after Muizzu came to power last year, India recently announced limited exports of essential commodities including sugar, wheat, rice, onion and eggs to Maldives as a goodwill gesture.

India had banned the export of these food products to control domestic inflation. However, it has made a provision for limited export of these goods to help the friendly countries in dire need.

India has also allowed export of up to one million tonnes of stone and river sand used as construction material. The Muizzu government has also tried to seek concessions from India on debt repayment, reflecting the Indian Ocean archipelago’s dependence on its larger neighbour.
