Fugitives sitting in Britain are not well, Indian agencies are preparing for major action

Delhi. Central agencies are going to take big steps against those who grab Indian property and leave the country. To catch the fugitives sitting abroad, the teams of these agencies will themselves go there and help in completing the operation. India’s most wanted fugitives, including defense dealer Sanjay Bhandari, diamond merchant Nirav Modi and Kingfisher Airlines promoter Vijay Mallya, have been sitting in Britain for years. Now, to expedite their extradition, a high level team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leaving for UK soon. Efforts are being made to identify their properties in the UK and other countries to seize the ‘proceeds of crime’.

Quoting sources, it is written that the team is being led by a senior official of the Ministry of External Affairs. Additionally, his meetings with UK officials have been scheduled by the Indian High Commission in London. In these meetings, pending information regarding the property earned by the fugitives in London and details of their banking transactions will be sought.

Arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari had gone on the run in 2016 soon after the Income Tax and ED initiated probe into several defense deals struck during the UPA regime. He is considered close to Robert Vadra, husband of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi. According to the ED, Sanjay Bhandari had acquired huge properties in London and Dubai and transferred the same to shell companies controlled by Vadra’s alleged associate CC Thampi.
