Witnesses and health officials said the shooting occurred at a roundabout south of Gaza City, where crowds had gathered to collect food items being distributed. In the footage available online, hundreds of people are seen running on the main road near the roundabout amid the sound of firing and people are seen holding relief materials in their hands.
Israeli soldiers opened fire
The injured are being treated at Shifa Hospital. Mohammed al-Reifi, who was hospitalized after being injured in the shooting, said Israeli soldiers fired into the crowd. Raffi said, “We were going to get flour….” He said several youths were injured in the attack. Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said 20 people were killed and 150 others were injured in the shooting.
Many aid agencies distribute goods
Several aid agencies distribute food and other essential items in Gaza. It is not yet known which agency was distributing relief material at the time of this attack. UNRWA, the UN refugee agency for Palestinian refugees, and the UN World Food Program both said they were not distributing relief goods at the time of the attack.
