Taipei: While on one hand the war between Israel and Hamas continues, on the other hand the ongoing tension in the Middle East has taken an important turn. There have been explosions in pagers used to deliver messages in many places in Syria, including the Lebanese capital Beirut. After the blasts, the Taiwanese company Gold Apollo, which manufactures pagers, has said a big thing on Wednesday. The Taiwanese company said that these pagers were manufactured by another company based in Budapest, to which it had given the right to use its authorized brand on the pagers. Simultaneous blasts rocked Lebanon and Syria on Tuesday, killing at least nine people, including an eight-year-old girl, and injuring nearly 3,000. Meanwhile, an American official, on condition of anonymity, said that Israel had informed America after the end of the operation. A small amount of explosive was hidden in the pager and then it was detonated.
What did the company say?
According to a statement issued by the Gold Apollo company on Wednesday, the AR-924 pager was manufactured by BAC Consulting KFT, which is based in the Hungarian capital. “As per the cooperation agreement, we gave BAC the right to use our brand trademarks for the sale of the product in specified territories (Lebanon and Syria), but BAC is solely responsible for the manufacturing of the product,” the statement said. Gold Apollo Chairman Su Ching-kuang told reporters on Wednesday that his company has had a license agreement with BAC for the past three years. However, he did not provide evidence of the contract.
people were in panic
On Tuesday, when people were shopping at shops, sitting inside cafes or going somewhere in cars and motorcycles, the pagers kept in their hands or in their pockets started heating up and exploded. After this incident, splatters of blood were visible everywhere and the people present around were in panic. Most of those injured in the attack appeared to be Hezbollah members, but it was not immediately clear whether any non-Hezbollah members also had explosive pagers.
Lebanon Pager Blast
‘Attacks on Israel will continue’
According to Lebanese security officials and Hezbollah officials, the blasts occurred mainly in areas where the group is believed to have a strong presence, particularly Beirut and the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon along with Damascus. The Hezbollah official gave this information on condition of anonymity. Hezbollah has blamed Israel for this attack. It said in a statement on Wednesday morning that it would continue its usual attacks against Israel, which it says are in support of its ally Hamas and the Palestinians in Gaza.
These countries offered help
During a visit to hospitals on Wednesday morning, Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad said many of the injured suffered serious eye injuries and many others had to have their limbs amputated. Journalists were not allowed to enter hospital rooms or film patients. The Health Minister said that the injured have been admitted to all the hospitals in the area so that no single hospital is burdened. He said that Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Egypt have offered help in treating the patients. An Iraqi military plane carrying medical equipment landed in Beirut on Wednesday, airport officials said. Abiad said the plane was carrying 15 tons of medicines and medical equipment. (AP)
