India Budget For Maldives : Modi government has also announced a big budget for anti-India Maldives. At the behest of China, Mohammed Muizzu winks at India, yet the Indian government has announced a budget of Rs 400 crore for Maldives. The biggest thing is that compared to last year, there has been no cut in the budget of Maldives, whereas the budget of Bhutan was reduced slightly. This year, the government has allocated Rs 2,068 crore for Bhutan, which was Rs 2,400 crore in the last financial year. Bangladesh has also been allocated Rs 120 crore in the current general budget, which was earlier Rs 200 crore.
Budget of many countries reduced except Maldives
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also made a big announcement of help for Mauritius. An amount of Rs 370 crore was allocated for it. However, it was Rs 400 crore last financial year. This year’s budget for Myanmar also reduced from Rs 400 crore to Rs 250 crore. There was no change in the budget for Maldives. This year also Rs 400 crore has been allocated for Maldives. An approval of Rs 100 crore has also been given in the budget for Iran’s Chabahar Port.
Budget of Nepal and Sri Lanka increased
However, this time the Modi government has increased the budget allocation for Nepal and Sri Lanka. Allocated Rs 700 crore as aid to Nepal in the financial year 2024-25, which was earlier Rs 550 crore. This year, Rs 245 crore was allocated for Sri Lanka, whereas last year this amount was Rs 150 crore.
Tension in India-Maldives relations
There is currently tension in relations between Maldives and India. China is also taking advantage of this. On the behest of China, Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu takes a tough stance towards India. Diplomatic relations between India and Maldives had become more tense in January this year. In fact, some Maldives MPs had made derogatory statements during PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. After which there was an earthquake in the politics of Maldives.
