Pakistan Imran Khan PTI Party Symbol: The Supreme Court of Pakistan, while giving its verdict late on Saturday (January 13) night, declared the inter-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) canceled. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had challenged the decision of a two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The PHC on Wednesday (January 10) had reinstated the bat as its election symbol, validating the PTI party’s elections. However, after this case, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Mussarat Hilali, while hearing the ECP’s petition, reserved the decision late on Saturday night.

Rejected ECP’s decision
In the decision read by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the court canceled the PHC decision. After this he reinstated the decision of ECP. The ECP had recently invalidated PTI’s intra-party elections and declared the party’s election symbol bat invalid.

The controversy over PTI’s election symbol began on 22 December when the ECP stripped the party of its election symbol, rejecting intra-party elections for the 8 February elections. After this, Imran Khan’s party moved the Peshawar High Court. The PHC had rejected the ECP’s decision through an interim order on December 26.

PTI Chairman expressed disappointment
The bat is the traditional symbol of PTI and it is believed that by depriving the party of its iconic symbol, its candidates will have to contest elections on different symbols, leading to confusion among party supporters in remote areas on the election day.
