Pakistan Social Media The use of social media platform “X” remains banned in Pakistan for the seventh consecutive day. The ban imposed since February 17 has not been lifted yet, due to which people are facing difficulty in sharing information or their views. The Pakistani government has not yet revealed the reason behind the ban.
Pakistan’s Information and Technology Minister Dr. Omar Saif and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have also not yet issued any statement in this matter. According to the report of Jio News, the user is facing a lot of difficulty in sharing his views and information.
Internet shut down to protect against terrorist attack
Since the general elections held on February 8, people of Pakistan are not able to use many social media platforms. A government official of Pakistan said that internet services were closed on the election day so that no terrorist attack could take place. Due to which there were frequent interruptions in social media X that day.
Internet shutdown is against the constitution
Internet shutdowns constitutionally violate freedom of information sharing and speech. In the year 2018, Islamabad High Court had said in its decision that internet shutdown is against the fundamental rights and the Constitution. Digital rights activists condemned the Pakistani authorities for this ban on social media X.
Order given for release of X services
On Thursday (February 23), the Sindh High Court ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to release the services of Social Media X across the country. However, PTA has not yet given permission to lift the ban on X.
