According to Bloomberg’s report, the level of nitrogen dioxide in the French cities of Paris and Lyon remains above the European limit. France’s Conseil d’Etat court said in its decision on Friday (November 24) that nitrogen dioxide levels remained above European limits in Paris and Lyon.
The court imposed a fine of 10 million euros
The apex administrative court has said that the steps currently taken by the government to prevent pollution are not enough to handle the situation in the current very short period of this year. After this, the court has ordered the state to pay an additional 10 million euros on the ever increasing air pollution in these two major cities.

Pollution has been uncontrolled throughout the year
The court said that a fine of 5 million euros will have to be paid for failure to prevent pollution in the second half of 2022. Whereas even in the first half of this year the government has failed to stop pollution. For this also a fine of 5 million euros has been imposed. Most of the fine will have to be paid to government agencies responsible for climate change and air pollution prevention.
Environment Ministry said- working to prevent pollution
In a statement, the French Environment Ministry said it was working to reduce pollution as quickly as possible at both national and local levels. Earlier, the court had imposed a fine of 30 million euros on the state in 2022 and 2021 for lack of improvement in air quality. The court has said that it will evaluate the government’s actions again next year.
