Russia Election 2024 : Presidential elections in Russia today amidst bloody war with Ukraine, Putin will become ‘President’ for the sixth time This strange law was made in 2021

New Delhi: On one hand, presidential elections have started in Russia from today. This is the first time in the history of elections that instead of one day, elections will be held in Russia for three days. Here, any Russian citizen above 18 years of age who is not yet serving a jail sentence in any criminal case can vote. The election results may be released by the night of March 17 as per the date and time of Moscow.

1.23 crore voters

This time, according to the Election Commission of Russia, there are a total of 1.23 crore voters in the country. These also include those who are citizens of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory. Apart from this, about 19 lakh voters currently live outside the country. However, this time there will also be facility of online voting in Russia. This facility will be in 27 regions of Russia and Crimea. Crimea is the same region of Ukraine which Russia captured in 2014.

Putin is sure to become president again

Here, according to most of the foreign media and especially the New York Times, even before the elections, it is considered certain that Putin (Vladimir Putin) will become the President again. Actually, Putin has been in power in Russia for the last 24 years. Most of Putin’s opponents are currently either in jail or the Election Commission has declared them ineligible for elections.

Will Putin remain the President of Russia till 2036?

Apart from this, Putin himself had made such a strange law in the year 2021 under which he can remain the President of Russia till 2036. Please note that till the elections of 2018, no President in Russia could remain President for more than two consecutive terms. Due to this, after being the President from 2000 to 2008, Putin did not contest the presidential election in 2008.

After this, he again returned to power in Russia in 2012. However, Putin had been the Prime Minister of Russia from 2008-12, which means even then the key to power was still in his pocket. According to the new law passed after this, Putin can still contest elections even after completing two consecutive presidential terms.
