Russian Foreign Ministry expressed objection
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova shared a post on Instagram saying that 465 monuments to our heroic soldiers have been destroyed in Poland. it’s embarrassing. It is a shameful act to erase the memory of 6,00,000 Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives to save the Second World War and the Polish nation.
Poland has taken such action before also
Also earlier in 2022, four communist-era monuments to Red Army soldiers were destroyed in Poland to remove symbols of Moscow’s dominance of World War II. Workers used drills and heavy equipment to destroy monuments at four different locations across Poland. Notably, since ending communist rule in 1989, Poland has been removing symbols, monuments and plaques of Moscow’s past dominance from public spaces.
