About 465 monuments to Russian soldiers have been destroyed in Poland, which the Russian Foreign Ministry has termed shameful. The ministry said that this action of the Polish government has attempted to erase the memory of World War II. Russian Foreign Ministry expressed objection

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova shared a post on Instagram saying that 465 monuments to our heroic soldiers have been destroyed in Poland. it’s embarrassing. It is a shameful act to erase the memory of 6,00,000 Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives to save the Second World War and the Polish nation.

Poland has taken such action before also

Also earlier in 2022, four communist-era monuments to Red Army soldiers were destroyed in Poland to remove symbols of Moscow’s dominance of World War II. Workers used drills and heavy equipment to destroy monuments at four different locations across Poland. Notably, since ending communist rule in 1989, Poland has been removing symbols, monuments and plaques of Moscow’s past dominance from public spaces.
