Dubai. An Iranian teenager who was injured in a suspicious incident just minutes after boarding the Tehran Metro a few weeks ago without wearing a hijab, has died. Iran’s government media gave this information on Saturday.
Armita Geravand died in Tehran after being in a coma for several weeks. About a year before this incident, a girl named Mahsa Amini had died in the custody of Iran police. After Amini’s death, there were widespread demonstrations in the country. Amini was detained by the morality police on charges of wearing hijab inappropriately.
possibility of protests
There is a possibility of large-scale protests in the country again due to the news of Geravand’s injury on October 1 and now his death. In particular, women in Tehran and elsewhere defy the law on wearing the hijab, which is a sign of their dissatisfaction with the country’s theocracy. Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported Geravand’s death without mentioning the widespread unrest over the hijab law.
What happened after boarding the train?
The question still remains as to what happened a few seconds after Geravand boarded the train. Her parents told state media that their daughter’s injuries were caused by a blood pressure problem, a fall, or perhaps both. At the same time, activists have alleged that Geravand may have been pushed or attacked for not wearing hijab. He demanded the United Nations to conduct an independent investigation into this matter.
Fell due to blood pressure
“According to official information provided by Armita Geravand’s doctors, she fell due to a sudden drop in blood pressure and suffered a brain injury,” IRNN said. After which he had continuous convulsions, there was lack of oxygen in the brain and there was swelling in it.
