Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake dissolved Parliament on Tuesday. He signed the special gazette notification. Elections will be held on 14 November. The last parliament convened in August 2020. The dissolution of Parliament took place 11 months ahead of schedule. During the presidential election campaign itself, Dissanayake had made it clear that if he was victorious, he would immediately dissolve the Parliament. The election results came on Saturday and 56-year-old Dissayanake took oath as President on Monday itself.
Dissanayake said- I will try my best to save democracy
Dissanayake, who was sworn in as the ninth President of Sri Lanka on Monday, said in his address, I assure you that I will do my best to save democracy and work towards restoring the respect of leaders, because among the people There are doubts about the conduct of leaders.
My aim is to get the country out of the economic crisis
Dissanayake said that Sri Lanka cannot remain isolated and needs international cooperation. He said that he is not a magician but his aim is to be a part of the collective responsibility to uplift the country which is facing economic crisis. The newly elected President said, I am not a magician. I am a common citizen born in this country. I have abilities and disabilities. I know some things and don’t know some things. My first job is to utilize the talents of the people and make better decisions to lead this country. He said, I want to be a contributor to collective responsibility.
