According to Saudi Arabian officials, about 18,000 people performed Hajj this year, out of which more than 1,300 died. The extreme heat is believed to be the cause of death of most of these people.
According to CNN report, Heru Jumartia, daughter of Indonesian citizen Wongso, says that her father was waiting for Johar (afternoon) prayers in Mecca on June 17, when he died. She says, ‘My father was very excited about going on Haj. He wanted to go to Mecca immediately. Even during the Haj pilgrimage, everyone told that he was healthy. But on June 17, he was found dead in his tent in Mina, south-east of Mecca.
Let us tell you that performing Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is mandatory for every financially and physically capable Muslim to visit the holy city of Mecca at least once in his life. Many Muslims keep saving money for Hajj for years and are able to undertake this journey in old age. There is a belief among Muslims that the land of Mecca is very sacred and dying and being buried there is like a blessing.
This is also the reason for the happiness of his family behind Wongso’s death. His daughter Jumartiya says, ‘We are happy that he was buried in Mecca.’ Along with this, she expressed hope that when she goes for Haj pilgrimage, she will definitely visit her father’s grave.
