Citizenship Amendment Act: The United Nations (UN) and America have expressed concern about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Last Tuesday (12 March 2024), the United Nations described CAA as discriminatory, while America says that it is keeping a close eye on the matter. During a special conversation with Reuters, the US State Department spokesperson said, “We are troubled by the CAA notification issued on March 11.” We are deeply analyzing the entire matter as to how it will be implemented there.

A US State Department spokesperson further said, “Respecting religious freedom and applying equal treatment under the law to all communities are fundamental democratic principles.”

Not only this, human rights activists and the organizations associated with them are also being targeted by the CAA law implemented in India. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have shown the CAA as discrimination against Muslims.

Let us tell you that the current government of India had introduced CAA in the Parliament in 2019. During this period it got success in both the houses. However, during that period violent clashes were also seen at many places. Despite this, the government remained firm on its decision.

It was expected that Lok Sabha Elections CAA law can be implemented in the country before. That’s exactly what happened. Lok Sabha elections are going to be held in India soon. A few months before that, on March 11, the Central Government had issued its notification regarding the law.

Under the Citizenship Amendment Act, Indian citizenship will be given to people of other religions including Hindus and Sikhs, except people of Muslim community who have come from India’s neighboring countries Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
